Signs & Symptoms of Depression and Anxiety

DEPRESSION

I am sure most of us have experienced times in our life where we feel down, sad and lonely.  If you are suffering from depression, then you may know that these feelings are persistent and can cause disruption in day to day life. Some common symptoms of depression include:

  • Constant exhaustion
  • Persistent sadness
  • Changes in appetite or sleep
  • Anger or irritable 
  • Lack of motivation
  • Feeling hopeless and helplessness 
  • Less interest in things that used to bring you joy

ANXIETY

Anxiety is actually very common and it is a part of normal emotional response to daily life.  It can become a problem when it starts to effect your daily functioning. Some common symptoms of anxiety include:

  • Worry that you cannot control
  • Changes in sleep
  • Restlessness/fatigue
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Avoiding social situations
  • Irrational fears
  • Agitation/Irritability 
  • Panic attacks

HOW CAN THERAPY HELP?

I use evidence-based approaches to address these concerns, some including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT).
